Hello, Foodies and Buddies!
This time on our weekly Chef of the Week column is Chef Rama Rao from Sobha Hillview who has recently crossed the 1000 Meals Sold Milestone on our platform!
Chef Rama is a beloved Buddy in the Hillview community and she has a heartwarming story about how this community helped her get started on FoodyBuddy.
“My introduction to FoodyBuddy is through the loving chefs of our apartment who supported me when I had some health issues. I realised then that FoodyBuddy is a platform to pursue your passion and be helpful to others. When I became better, Chef Urmila introduced me to the platform as a seller and Mr Akil Sethuraman – FoodyBuddy’s CEO – encouraged me at every step!”
Since then it has been an exciting journey for Chef Rama and she credits her spirituality as the reason she keeps on selling. “I am a Sai devotee and for the past 20 years, I have been distributing prasadam on Thursdays. The way people waited for my prasadam made me realise nothing is more precious than the satisfaction you see on peoples’ faces after eating good food. 1000 Meals is only a number. I want to cook and make people happy as long as I can,” she explained.
Chef Rama is an authentic South Indian specialist but she also has a love for North Indian food which she incorporates into her cooking. “I specialize in authentic South Indian food but my aim is a fusion of both South Indian and North Indian dishes. I like to cook Avial, Dahi Vada, and all types of curries while my best-selling dishes are Masala Dosa and my Idly-Vada Combo.”
Chef Rama’s customers absolutely love the food that she cooks and that shows in the kind of interactions they have with Chef Rama.
“A special bond is formed between a buyer and a seller,” said Chef Rama. “One of my buyers tells me she gets very disappointed when she doesn’t find my dishes! Another buyer says her daughter is so fond of my Sambar that she keeps little for lunch also when I send it with idly! Such feedback touches your heart!”
New sellers on the FoodyBuddy platform should be inspired by Chef Rama and she has some advice for those who are starting out on their journey as a Buddy. “My tip for the new buddies is give your 100% and show the same enthusiasm as it was the first time you were cooking!” Short and sweet words which speak the truth 🙂
Chef Rama also discussed her future plans with us and she said, “I am not looking too far into the future but I want to give my best and win the love of the people!”
In closing, Chef Rama had this to say about FoodyBuddy. “FoodyBuddy is doing a tremendous work for people like me who can’t go out due to personal reasons but still feel constructive. For me, cooking is not work, it is my passion my motivation and I feel indebted to FoodyBuddy for having given me this opportunity!”
Thank you so much for the kind words, Chef Rama, and we are so lucky to have you as such a valued member of our community. We wish you all the very best going forward 🙂
